The purpose of the role:

Reporting to the Development Services Director, the overall purpose of this role is to undertake the development as part of a small team focusing on larger, primarily internal, applications. This will involve liaising with internal stakeholders to analyse requirements, and implement solutions based on Microsoft technologies.

The main focus will be a project to combine/ enhance two existing internal systems, migrating from 2 legacy desktop systems to a single web based interface.  The current project is creating a unified web UI without fundamental changes to the two backend database designs. Longer term the database design will come into scope.

Key Responsibilities


  • Review existing systems to understand current processes in place
  • Plan and undertake developments with clear milestones to assess progress
  • Complete development projects utilising Microsoft web and database technologies primarily C#/ VB.Net and SQL/ Entity Framework
  • Be able to quickly interpret the priorities and alter development style to required needs of the part of the project
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with the agreed working practices and quality procedures
  • Monitor costs and progress on all projects and keep managers abreast of any potential issues
  • Produce regular communications to inform stakeholders progress
  • Provide input into/ undertake costings and schedules
  • Produce and adhere to schedules, and liaise with project management teams to maintain such schedules
  • Support and trouble shoot older code and review to extract current processes, going back to SQL2000 and VB4
  • Create and maintain server documentation on existing and future systems as implementation evolves
  • Provide second line support to the systems. The local departments have internal super users to cover first line support but will escalate to the development team as required     
  • Whilst there is no expectation of regular out of hours support, there may the occasional need to work late or at weekends to assist with major support requests or system upgrades
