Overview
McKinsey’s Operations Practice is one of the fastest growing practices in McKinsey globally and in Asia.  We develop and define operational strategies to help our clients around the world solve their most critical problems.  We tackle the key operational challenges faced by our clients, particularly in the areas of supply chain management, product development, purchasing & supply management, service operations, manufacturing, and capital productivity. 
Detailed Description
McKinsey’s Operations Academy (OA) is an intensive three- to four-year training program for Operations Business Analysts. The program consists of client work, structured training, and knowledge development focused on building general consulting skills and a deep expertise in operations. As a member of the OA, you will have opportunities for exposure to top executives of Fortune 500 companies, and will work on client engagements and knowledge development efforts in at least three of the six core functional areas. 
More than one quarter of McKinsey’s client engagements focus on operations. We undertake a diverse array of work across all industry sectors and geographies, and span six core functional areas:
  • Capital productivity.  We work with leading companies across industries to improve the efficiency of their capital investments. Our work covers all aspects of capital productivity management, including Greenfield project design, project portfolio and asset optimization, global contracting and procurement support, and mega-project execution and turnaround.
  • Manufacturing.  In the face of global competition and escalating customer expectations, we help companies determine the right manufacturing footprint for their business, and help them assess and take advantage of all strategic opportunities. We manage the design and implementation of world class operating systems by leading clients though large-scale transformations that start from the shop floor and cut across all support functions.
  • Product development.  We are committed to helping clients develop products and services that fit market needs. We work to ensure these products and services are produced with attractive margins, provide platforms for add-on offerings, and enhance the reputation of the brand for future business growth.
  • Purchasing and supply management.  Purchasing is recognized as a route to new growth opportunities through strategic and innovative partnerships with suppliers. We help purchasing professionals work across functions globally and to use “total cost of ownership” as a driver for sourcing decisions rather than price.
Desired Skills
The Operations Analyst program is highly selective. Primary requirements include:
  • Highly skilled problem-solving ability (quantitative, conceptual, analytical)
  • Strong interest and passion for operations topics including manufacturing, lean production, product development, supply chain, purchasing and supply management and/or service-oriented operations
  • Ability to grasp and communicate complex ideas clearly
  • Capable of working well with others (highly collaborative) but also autonomously
  • Strong commitment to excellence and personal and professional growth
  • Comfort with traveling extensively
  • Bachelors degree (plus Masters preferred) in an engineering or operations discipline
  • Strong record of academic achievement and clear demonstrations of leadership in a work, academic and/or extracurricular setting
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is a must
