McKinsey Solutions – Organizational Solutions – Client Service Lead – China



The McKinsey Solutions Office (MSO) Client Service Lead for Organizational Health Index (OHI) is responsible for driving the development and execution of the market strategy for OHI in China and will work jointly with global and regional leaders to identify, syndicate, and implement new initiatives to promote OHI in this region.
Detailed Description
The qualified individual will work in joint partnership with global and regional leaders to identify, syndicate, and implement new initiatives to promote the OHI for China and greater APAC. This entails working with the OHI leadership, McKinsey Solutions Office, and Organization Practice leadership, targeted leaders as well as client service teams (CSTs), Organization Practice consultants, and clients in the region. This individual is expected to become an OHI subject matter expert in the region, and in this capacity, to work directly with clients and teams to build reach and ensure impact of OHI services.
  • Collaborate with OHI Solution leaders to set the overall aspirations for OHI in China and greater APAC, and shape and execute initiatives that drive implementation
  • Partner with the targeted leaders in China and greater APAC (Organization Practice regional leader, service line leaders, and hub leaders as well as office managers, CST leaders, and OHI regional leads) to:
    • Develop an understanding of solution applications and key competitors
    • Jointly develop a go-to-market plan for each hub, including identification of new market opportunities
    • Ensure quality output for client development and drive distinctive solution delivery
    • Build capabilities and foster an increased level of engagement and commitment to OHI
    • Partner with CSTs and clients directly to deliver on OHI aspirations in the region
    • Provide organization and technical expertise for letters of proposal (LOPs) and new client development efforts
    • Present and defend proposals to prospective clients
    • Lead pivotal moments in the delivery of the OHI solution with clients (e.g., scoping, interpretation of results, reporting “mirror” workshop, design of action plan, etc.)
    • Provide on-going leadership and expertise to teams and clients within context of OHI solution
    • Perform superior client opportunity management including engaging and educating both CSTs and clients about OHI
  • Work with Organization Practice consultants in the region to build OHI capabilities and foster a sense of excitement and community:
    • Identify and increase interest of consultants to be targeted for increased outreach and OHI capability building
    • Build capabilities, e.g., through OHI bootcamp training
    • Create system to link consultants with opportunities
Desired Skills
  • Experience with client engagement and advanced delivery, e.g., workshop facilitation
  • Demonstrated results in leading change within complex and diverse organizational cultures and in creating commitment to change efforts
  • Superior people skills with experience in complex relationship management; able to manage clients up and down throughout the client organization
  • Demonstrated project/account management and client development skills
  • Strong consulting skills in terms of issue identification, problem identification, solution development
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
Background and Training:
  • Ideal candidates will have at least a Masters or PhD and roughly 8 to 12 years of experience
  • Prior consulting experience is preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurialism
  • A proven track record of developing new client relationships and generating business development opportunities
  • Strong organizational knowledge is critical – experience with and passion for Organization-related topics and statistics as well as direct experience with organizational effectiveness strongly preferred
  • Comfort with role ambiguity as we rapidly grow our business
  • Office location is Shanghai 
  • Travel may range from 25 to 40%
