TNS BMRB is the leading social research agency in the UK. We specialise in providing knowledge, evidence and insight that helps Government, the private sector and the Third Sector plan and care for society.

Our Quantitative Policy research team delivers a wide range of high-profile research and evaluation projects working alongside our qualitative research colleagues. We are looking for a talented Director– someone with the ability to lead and inspire a team, drive business development and deliver the best possible insight and evidence to our clients.

TNS BMRB’s Quantitative Policy team are a dedicated and talented group of about 20 researchers with expertise across numerous policy and methodological areas.   As well as mixed methods working with our qualitative policy research colleagues, we benefit from working alongside colleagues in our National Statistics and Longitudinal Surveys team.  We also draw on the advice and input of our dedicated Methods team.  

In the role you will have the opportunity to collaborate regularly with colleagues in the wider TNS UK working for major commercial clients.   We share the latest developments across our practices in research design, analysis and the most visually engaging presentation of results so we can continually enhance our offer to clients.   TNS BMRB also benefits from the wider expertise of Kantar Group and WPP partners and is at the forefront of the global WPP Government & Public Sector Practice.

Within the team we place a high priority on the training and mentoring of junior staff to enable them to take on increasing responsibility within the team and grow in their confidence in communicating with clients.   Our commitment to talent development also extends to senior staff, with a diverse array of training and development opportunities to ensure you can keep your skills up to date and develop your leadership potential.

Scope of role, and responsibilities

The role will involve the following activities:

  • Supporting the Head of Policy Quantitative in managing the team.
  • Leading on new business activity with major Whitehall and other clients.
  • Contributing to strategic planning alongside other senior staff – identifying and enabling new growth opportunities; supporting methodological innovation; and helping further expand our client base.
  • Supporting finance, HR and operational reporting.
  • Ensuring that projects are delivered profitably and to targets
  • Overseeing the project management of numerous projects for clients to ensure they achieve their goals on the basis of robust, high quality, evidence and strong strategic insight.
  • Developing new and existing client relationships, on projects and more widely, and new avenues of business.
  • Working closely with colleagues in the Qualitative practice to design and deliver mixed-method projects.
  • Managing and mentoring team members to deliver great work and realise their potential.
  • Contributing to the profile of TNS BMRB, including speaking at client events and conferences.
  • Candidates will be interested in developing their career through growing a senior leadership role.
     

Candidate Specification:

Skills and experience:

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent
  • Extensive quantitative research experience, with experience of qualitative research.
  • Experience leading a team
  • A proven track record in new business development
  • Successful delivery of quantitative research in a Social or Market Research agency or similar organisation.
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Operational understanding of survey management in a research agency
  • Report writing expertise
  • Excellent client relationships
  • Experienced working with UK government clients
  • Financial and staff management experience
